Local 19 represents over 8,500 Union members across Northern California. We are a growing private sector Union that represents workers in hotels, sports arenas, convention centers, airports, restaurants, and cafeterias. Our Union’s organizing program, research department, grassroots political organizing, training programs and worker activism have made us a dynamic force in the American Labor Movement.
We take pride in being known as an “organizing local”. Organizing non-union workers is our priority because it ensures our future and protects our standard of living. When Local 19 grows, it becomes stronger and benefits us all. Our members have fought hard to win and improve the standard of living we currently enjoy.
Due to their hard work and dedication we have won:
- Job security
- Fair wages
- A voice on the job
- Respect in the workplace
- Health insurance
- Pension
Through a Union, workers have a right to impact wages, work hours, benefits, workplace health and safety, job training and other work-related issues. Under U.S. law, workers of all ages have the right to join a Union. All of the benefits and protections workers enjoy today came about as a result of the organized labor movement in this country.
